Senior Security Specialist

Vancouver, Canada

 

Under the general direction of the Senior Manager of IT Operations, the Senior Security Specialist will lead Avigilon’s Information Security Operations activities. As a Senior Security Specialist, this position provides an opportunity to help shape the direction of our company’s cyber security programs by providing thought leadership, architectural direction, professional support and valued contributions to a range of activities. We are looking for an experienced security professional, who has a breadth of knowledge and skills across various security domains, an understanding of industry best practices, and an awareness of emerging cyber threats and trends.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide the infrastructure team with requirements for firewall, IPS, AV, and network segmentation and audit compliance to those requirements
  • Provide analysis and trending of security log data from a large number of heterogeneous security devices
  • Provide Incident Response leadership when analysis confirms an actionable incident
  • Respond to activities deemed to be improper or in violation of security policies or other applicable rules and regulations
  • Provide threat and vulnerability analysis as well as security advisory services
  • Analyze and respond to previously undisclosed software and hardware vulnerabilities
  • Stay abreast of current trends, technologies, regulations, threats, etc.; provide technical support to network, support, and other IT and operational teams
  • Investigate, document, and report on information security issues and emerging trends
  • Mentor and share information with other departments
  • Collaborate with management peers on process improvement, documentation and definition for threat analysis and classification
  • Act as an escalation point and subject matter expert
  • Develop and maintain policies, practices, and standards in collaboration and consultation with business stakeholders
  • Foster a culture of growth and development within the team

Required Technical Experience (requires several of the following):

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/information systems or related field or equivalent demonstrated experience and knowledge
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Security Administrator or equivalent knowledge
  • Experience in incident identification/analysis, escalation procedures, and reduction of false-positives
  • Experience in establishing security controls to protect information systems
  • Experience in monitoring, evaluating, and interpreting vulnerabilities, CVEs, remedies, mitigation measures, techniques for escalation, social engineering tactics, performing vulnerability assessments.
  • Professional certification CISSP, CEH, CISA, or other related certifications preferred
  • Knowledge of various security methodologies and processes, and technical security solutions (firewall and intrusion detection systems)
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP Protocols, network analysis, and network/security applications
  • Requires strong knowledge of Windows administration, Active Directory, domain structures, user authentication and GPO implementation
  • Knowledge of or experience with industry compliance standards such as SOX, CSOX, ISO, ITIL, etc.
  • Working knowledge of audit methodologies and security assessment tools
  • Knowledge of common Internet protocols and applications
